Earlier
this year, Delaware Pride announced the date of the 2010 annual Delaware
Pride Festival in Rehoboth Beach as Saturday, September 11, 2010.
Please note that the date for the 2010 festival has been changed to
Saturday, September 18, 2010.
The Delaware Pride Board realizes that this date also coincides with the
Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, and would like to offer a heartfelt apology to
the members of the Delaware LGBT Jewish community. Unfortunately, the
festival date choice of September 18 is out of Delaware Pride’s control.
State park officials recently informed us that no date in September earlier
than the 18th is an option for the festival, and despite our pleas, park
officials are firm in that decision. With that in mind, we did
consider many other dates—all of which, for various reasons, presented
logistical obstacles. As the Jewish holidays are not based on set
calendar days, and do not always occur on the same day of the week, we felt
it best to continue with our festival on the third Saturday of September, as
in the past. We regret that in 2009 and again in 2010, that date falls
on a religious holiday for some members of our community. We are
hoping this year to include other events throughout the entire weekend to
expand our celebration from just one day, as we did last year with the
addition of our Night of Remembrance on Friday night, and hope that anyone
not able to attend the festival in-person will still be able to share in its
spirit of celebration.
We are looking forward to a wonderful fourteenth annual Delaware Pride
Festival on Saturday, September 18, 2010! To learn more about Delaware
